Tips For Spring Roof Cleaning

A Check List for Spring Roof Cleaning

As we enter the spring season in Florida, the temperature is starting to change. Things are growing warmer again and people are starting to think about doing some spring cleaning. These fluctuations in temperature can be your roofing shingles worst enemy. It’s a good time for homeowners to talk to a roofing contractor about these things. After all, you want your home to look great and one of the best ways of doing this is by extending your roof’s lifespan. With this in mind, there are some tips that you should keep in mind when it comes to spring cleaning and your roof.

A Check List for Spring Roof Cleaning

Roof cleaning should never be overlooked when you create your spring cleaning list. There are several things that this will entail, including:

  • Make sure that there aren’t any tree limbs touching your roof. When this happens they’ll easily scrape over your shingles. This loosens the protective granules there, significantly reducing the lifespan of your roof.
  • A lot of leaves and needles also aren’t good for your roof. When they start collecting there they can also start collecting moisture. This isn’t good because it can cause mildew to form, your gutters to become blocked, and extra weight to be placed on your roof. You can easily use either a rake or an air blower to clear these off of your roof without damaging your shingles.
  • Moss thrives when there’s a lot of moisture and not a lot of sunlight. In order to reduce the amount of moss that’s growing on your roof, you’ll need to cut back trees and remove leaves from the area. While chemicals do exist to help with this, their runoff will damage your plants, which is why you shouldn’t use them.
  • Another important part of roof maintenance has to do with taking care of any clogged or damaged gutters. It’s important to make sure that water can easily flow through your gutters and fix any loose nails that are preventing your gutters from sitting tightly against your roof line.

Roof maintenance is an important way to keep your shingles in good shape. This is important because a new roof can be costly but sometimes you don’t want to get up on the roof yourself for whatever reason. When you find yourself in this type of situation you should pick up your phone and give us a call at Avatar Roofing.
